Featured work on CNNgo.com

Filed under: News — Derrick @ 7:16 pm

In mid-2009, I started producing photo galleries and articles for cnngo.com, a division of cnn.com international which focuses on 6 cities in Asia: Singapore, Mumbai, Bangkok, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong.  The website is a local’s guide to the aforementioned cities and there are also news, culture and travel stories from other parts of Asia.  Most of my images are focused on stories in Hong Kong but I have also contributed to Bangkok’s site and I’m sure my images will be featured in other CNNgo sities as I travel around this big continent I now call home.  You can follow my latest CNNGo stories here.

Welcome to the new and improved MaskofChina.com

Filed under: News — Derrick @ 7:21 pm

Thanks to the hard work and creativity of Shanghai based web designer, Jonathan Hogan, I’m pleased to welcome you to the new home of my humanitarian and assignment photography website, Maskofchina.com.  If you don’t know who I am or what I do, please visit my bio page, or contact me for additional details.

This site will be used to showcase my latest documentary projects and assignments and I will be writing a blog that will share my thoughts and experiences with humanitarian aid organizations, non-government organizations, various assignments, photography skills and equipment and the odd rant and rave about politics, economics, culture and the like.

Comments and constructive criticisms are always welcome.  Thanks for visiting and please visit regularly.

Change of direction: Humanitarian Photography

Filed under: News — Derrick @ 4:53 am

It’s been a long time since I last updated the MOC News here. Exciting things have happened in 2008 on a personal and professional level.  In the first half of the year I was busy completing my University of Hong Kong coursework and working hard on side projects and photo shoots.

Through the influence of my photography and personal mentors I have decided to concentrate on humanitarian photography by serving the charity and non-government organisation (NGO) community.  Simply put, I hope to partner with local Hong Kong NGOs, as well as NGOs around the world to provide eye-catching images for their use in marketing and advertising materials.  I have had success reaching out to local Hong Kong volunteer organisations as well as NGOs in mainland China and I hope to extend this around Asia and the world.

My personal photography goal is to be synonymous  with social documentary and humanitarian photography in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.  My hope is that my images provide a sense of hope, meaning and are a true documentary voice for the individuals living in dire conditions and to the unsung heroes who dedicate themselves to serving the underprivileged.

If you know of an organisation who could use the services of a humanitarian photographer in Hong Kong, mainland China or around Asia, please let me know or have them contact me for arrangements.

I fully appreciate the tremendous support from friends, family and even strangers that I have met along the way.  Thank you.

MOC Photography on Apple

Filed under: News — Derrick @ 6:22 pm

Recently, my friend Tom, the project leader of Nomadic Marketing, approached me with the idea of building a screen saver and submitting it to Apple.com to garner attention for his Library Project work and help promote my photography.  Lo and behold, the screen saver was accepted and is now available for download.  Please take a look at the screen saver, not only is it available in Mac but also PC versions too.

I’d like to merge my love of photography with the desire to help NGOs in Asia.  If any readers know of any charities that would like the services of a professional photographer, please have them contact me, I’d love to help them market their services.

Enjoy.
