Change of direction: Humanitarian Photography

Filed under: News — Derrick @ 4:53 am

It’s been a long time since I last updated the MOC News here. Exciting things have happened in 2008 on a personal and professional level.  In the first half of the year I was busy completing my University of Hong Kong coursework and working hard on side projects and photo shoots.

Through the influence of my photography and personal mentors I have decided to concentrate on humanitarian photography by serving the charity and non-government organisation (NGO) community.  Simply put, I hope to partner with local Hong Kong NGOs, as well as NGOs around the world to provide eye-catching images for their use in marketing and advertising materials.  I have had success reaching out to local Hong Kong volunteer organisations as well as NGOs in mainland China and I hope to extend this around Asia and the world.

My personal photography goal is to be synonymous  with social documentary and humanitarian photography in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.  My hope is that my images provide a sense of hope, meaning and are a true documentary voice for the individuals living in dire conditions and to the unsung heroes who dedicate themselves to serving the underprivileged.

If you know of an organisation who could use the services of a humanitarian photographer in Hong Kong, mainland China or around Asia, please let me know or have them contact me for arrangements.

I fully appreciate the tremendous support from friends, family and even strangers that I have met along the way.  Thank you.
